A children's comic book for promoting healthy lifestyle choices

The presentation will include: 1) brief background information about childhood obesity and the need for engaging children to make healthy lifestyle choices, 2) motivation and rationale for creating a nutrition comic book, 3) goals and topics covered in the comic with example pages, 4) preliminary feedback and impact of use in Stanford's Pacific Free Clinic, 5) brief overview of Stanford's Biomedical Ethics and Medical Humanities Scholarly Concentration Program with examples of other student projects.

Presenter Allison Zemek is a 3rd-year medical student at Stanford University, with a concentration in Biomedical Ethics and Medical Humanities. She was born and raised in Southern California and went to UC Irvine for an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering. Some of her hobbies include painting, sculpting and gardening.
