MScBMC Awards

Biomedical Communications Bursary (dependent upon funding)

In the past, funds have been available to the Master of Science in Biomedical Communications program to provide relief for students who encounter financial difficulty while in the program. Recipients must be in the program and must demonstrate legitimate financial need.

Eligibility

  1. Applicants must have applied to OSAP/UTAPS or state the specific reason(s) for their ineligibility. If an eligible student has not applied for OSAP/UTAPS that student is ineligible for this bursary.

  2. Students must be registered full-time at the University of Toronto in the MScBMC program in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto.

  3. Financial need must be demonstrated by completing and verifying a Financial Needs Assessment Form.

Application

Completion of the Financial Needs Assessment Form (provided to students in the program) and submitted to the Biomedical Communications program.

Value

Dependent upon funding. (Not all bursary requests are approved and not all students who apply may be funded.)

Awarded annually to a graduate student in the Master of Science in Biomedical Communications in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine to recognize the demonstration of excellence and professionalism in quality of medical illustration and communication, team participation and leadership skills, and commitment to the profession.

Awarded annually to one or more applicants to the Master of Science in Biomedical Communications in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, with the highest entrance GPA, or best portfolio, or at the discretion of the Biomedical Communications Admissions Committee.

Completion of the Financial Needs Assessment Form (provided to students in the program) and submitted to the Biomedical Communications program.

Awarded, within the first 18 months of the program, to a first or second year graduate student enrolled in the Master of Science in Biomedical Communications program in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine who demonstrates artistic excellence in the representation of structure and function at the gross, micro, or molecular level. Work must be completed within a Biomedical Communications course.

Not required. Selection made by a committee of Biomedical Communications faculty members.

The Wendy M. Kates Memorial award is given to a BMC student on the basis of academic achievement in the MScBMC Master’s Research Project and/or paper. Commitment to the profession and financial need are also considered. The award is given in the year of graduation.
